Continued bad weather has thwarted today's alpine-style summit bid by Ulrike and Harry. Yesterday the Team asked for a 5 day weather forecast because of the deteriorating conditions.
Lots of contact earlier this morning. . I sent the updated weather forecast (taken from the climbK2.net website where the weather forecast is updated morning and evening every day) . . . .
08h16: 1 August from Advanced Base Camp:
"Snowing heavily - an intensely frustrated climbing and support team at ABC because we are expecting continued bad weather and heavy snow. Of the 16 days since setting up BC we have only had 5 days' good weather which we could use to set up Camp 1 and push our route on the North-West Spur to 6000m.
We presently face unacceptable risk from avalanches as the mountain sheds unconsolidated snow if we try to push our route to the ice plateau and try to summit.
We need a break in the weather, better freezing conditions and better visibility for any hope of summiting and this will have to happen very soon because we have to dismantle the fixed ropes and take down ABC and Camp 1 to be in BC by 9th August. Still, everyone well and hoping for the best. Love to all. Andre"
