Sadly we see yet another cowardly terrorist attack in Indonesia killing many people. This will now have a further devasting impact upon Indonesian Tourism and perhaps see a halt in the surat julans (travel permits) being granted for travel to Puncak Jaya.
From what we hear on the media this am many Australians will now no longer travel to Indonesia as we and many others have been hurt several times. We went back there to help the Indonesians and I predict many now will just give this region a wide berth. Is your holiday worth the risks.
7 summiteers will now have to way up the potential risks in attaining this elusive peak.

Here is the Australian travel warning reissued early this am

Australians are advised to defer non-essential travel to Indonesia. Australians in Indonesia who are concerned for their safety should consider departing. Australians who consider their presence in Indonesia to be essential should exercise extreme caution. The recommendation that Australians defer non-essential travel applies to Indonesia as a whole, including Bali.

A number of bombs exploded in Bali in the evening of 1 October at several locations, including Kuta Square and Jimbaran Bay. Several deaths and injuries occurred. The possibility of further explosions cannot be ruled out. Australians in Bali should exercise extreme caution and remain in their hotels while Indonesian authorities respond to the situation. Travellers should also advise their families in Australia regarding their welfare and safety.
