I've just annotated Lorenzo's recordings from Camp 3 at 8300m. Conditions sound excellent, so they're not going to hang around. Will be a little while until his next message.

Just in from Harry SUMMIT! we have been watching the team all morning, here is the first unofficial 7summits update. Mingma Gelu & Sergey K summited quite early as planned and waited for the rest of the clients. Apparently Slate Stern summited soon after and was going down quickly after, in good speed. Henrik Olsen also summited in good time and finished his 7 summits! Ilya was having problems at the 3rd step and sat there for a long time, but our team is bringing him down now. Noel summited about 25 minutes ago and is now going down and just a few minutes ago, at the end of our maximum time allowed, Lorenzo arrived at the summit, where our guide Igor Svergun was waiting for him, they will be coming down now and will be taking everybody they meet on the way. More Sherpas have summited as well, names to follow later. Ronnie Muhl is now at the 2nd step, so we will have to take him down as he is going too slow to go for the summit safely, just as Igor Plushkin. At the moment we are not sure if Kirk summited or not, but so far everybody is safe and in good hands and we will make sure that all members and sherpas come down together. Maybe more later, we will be leaving with team B soon. All the best, Harry 2nd update from Harry Hi all, just a quick addition before I head up: Kirk did summit as well, with Noel, as did Arkadiy from Russia. Everybody is on the way down and the weather is good. Meanwhile we are having breakfast with and illegal alien, Simone Moro Next report from the mountain! Cheers, Harry Congrats to all summiteers!!! And team A, just get back down this mountain safely! Team B...the best of luck! MC p.s. Harry...please get the scoop from the "Everest Wanderer". That Simone sure does get around!

Wonderful news. Will Lorenzo be sending you a text message when he reaches C-3 (8300m)? I will sleep much better knowing that he has arrived and in good health.
As always, thanks a million for the updates.

I would expect a voice blog from one of the North Col camps. Doesn't look like he was able to send a GPS fix from the top - I doubt he'd be able to press the little buttons on the phone with the gloves on!

Here's hoping Lorenzo, Noel, Slate (yea USA), Henrik, Kirk, and all of team one made it safely down to 7700, if not already, then in the next 5 or so hours.
And best wishes to Harry, Alex, Thomas and team two for a safe and successful summit attempt.
John

I am looking forward to hearing that Lorenzo, Noel, Ronnie and all of team "A" are safety back to 7700m or lower. I am reminded of last year when we were waiting for news on Lorenzo, Harry and Mountain John. It was a long 48 hour period. It is difficult to get info from the high altitudes of Everest. MC Just read a post from Glenda Muhl: "I spoke to Ronnie last night - about 24 hours after he had left for the summit. He was safely back at 7700m."

Lorenzo just sent a blog dated 22 May 2006 01:04 UK time. The English version did not record but the Italian version did. Darn, I wish I had learned Italian when I was in Italy!!! Anyone speak Italian out there that could translate for us? Liana? http://everest.open.ac.uk/sounds/list.phpMC

Lorenzo just sent a blog dated 22 May 2006 01:04 UK time. The English version did not record but the Italian version did. I've corrected this. The conversion process from WAV to MP3 sometimes gets interrupted, but fortunately it doesn't loose the original recording. It does break up a bit in the middle and he gets a little difficult to understand. Chris.

I just listened to Lorenzo's blog. I am elated and so happy for him. What a feat, he should be so proud. Chris, please let Lorenzo know that Dave and I will be following his progress with the "Solidarity Project" and also Noel's quest in India. (Everest to sea level.) Thank you MC

Latest from Lorenzo is that Ronnie is with him, back safe at ABC, but he is very tired and did not make the summit.

Thank you Lynne, for the explanation of Noel's quest for the 7 summits to sea level world record. I thought he was just attempting Everest to sea level, which is a feat in itself. I am wishing Noel success on this journey of journeys. I'll look forward to updates. MC

As some of you may know Lorenzo is of course on his way to India (the soiltary project) so they intend ... meeting up their final destinations are only around 20k apart ... So, Lorenzo isn't going to go with Noel? I think he'd forgotten that the sat phone we've lent him almost certainly won't work in India, so we wouldn't have been able to keep the blog running. Chris.
