From Yomari.comBY OUR REPORTER
On the 50th anniversary of the conquest of the world's highest peak, the Mount Everest, Mount Everest Brewery Pvt. Ltd. (MEBPL) has launched a limited edition of Everest Premium Lager Beer.
Jamling Norgay Sherpa, son of late Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who conquered the Mt. Everest for the first time with Sir Edmund Hillary 50 years ago, launched the special edition of the beer amidst a function on Tuesday, May 27.

Piyush Bahadur Amatya, chairman, MEBPL, on the occasion said that the special edition of the export quality Everest Premium Lager Beer is a tribute to the great achievement of the first conquest of Mount Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa. "This is expected to boost the tourism sector in Nepal apart from providing a strong base for the organisation," he further added. He also informed that the regular edition of the brand is exported to UK and Japan.

Amatya informed that the family members of Tenzing Norgay have agreed to offer their services as brand ambassador for the worldwide promotion of the beer.

He also announced that a certain portion of the revenue generated from its sale will be contributed for the betterment of the Sherpa community. The company also handed over a cheque of Rs. 150,000 to the Tenzing Norgay Foundation and Himalayan Trust.

On the occasion, Jamling Norgay said, "Ewe are proud to be associated with a brand named after the Mt. Everest and hope this kind of initiative will be meaningful for Sherpas living in the high mountains".

Reinhold Messner, the first person to scale Mount Everest without oxygen was also present at the occasion.

Edmund Hillary was scheduled to lunch the special edition of the beer, however, could not attend the ceremony due to unavoidable circumstances, it was informed.

MEBPL, manufacturer and marketer of San Miguel and Golden Tiger Double Beer, has introduced the Everest commemorative beer which is available in the market in 650 ml bottle and 300 ml can.

We had some Kilimanjaro Beer on the way down from Kili. Quite nice but it was 5 Dollars a bottle! Not bad when you consider some poor b****rd has to carry it halfway up the mountain!
