I am interested in the opinions of those on this site as to the "best" internal frame backpack in the 5,500-6,700 cu. in. range  I am climbing aconcagua 12/03 and would appreciate any and all comments. thanks  |

Look for backpacks from these brands
Arc t Rex
Gregory
Osprey
macpac
radical design
to say witch 1 is best is hard as you must fit a backpack like shoes and thats very personal...but all brands i mentioned make top of the line backpacks.

i would especially recommend radical design and arc, but i would not use macpac as mine ripped after only 3 days of actual use.

Just curious what trunl would describe "real use" as is it taking your ice axe and stearing it down the middle?
I personally would suggest a Seratus or Gregory but that is just personal favs.

Anyway a Macpac is not supposed to rip after 3 days....im sure it is an isolated incident..they are 1 of the most riged packs.

heres what happened, i was hiking and slipped, my pack scrated along a rock wall for about 3 seconds and it ripped, i would not recommend them.

The point is trunl, that you reply to just about each and every thread on this site offering your 'advice' even though you have virtually zero climbing experience. Also, just doing what 'feels right' is something which gets people killed in the mountains.

you aren't by any chance ron, are you, experienced climber?
and also about the feels right comment, doing what feels right isn't what gets people killed it's what saves peoples lives. if you are in the middle of a climb and something doesn't feel right, to you, like the weather, then turn back. if it turns out there was a whiteout moments after you got in your tent, then your instincts are right, if not then it doesn't matter, you can always try again.

How much mountaineering experience do you have trunl? Should provide an interesting point of reference for your statements such as mentioned below... would be nice if you could provide some specifics: mountains climbed, solo-climbing experience, expedition experience, experience leading a climb, perhaps possible formal accreditations from alpine clubs, etc.
