Hei!
Some questions about Aconcagua:

Are there many deaths on Aconcagua by climbers on the normal route at summer climbing?  ???
Do you need ropes or any other technichal equiptment to summit?  :()
Is it true that it is not a seemly beutifull mountain to climb? :o

1 Yes there are many deaths..because its an easy climb people tend to gain altitude to fast and die of HACE or HAPE..also because of the easy climb it attracks a lot of "tourists"

2. No not needed on normal route (a good climber anyway) You need good protection against the elements though..it can be VERY cold.

3. The mountain itself is nice..the normal route aint anything spectacular..its walking over stones and debris...not nice.

Hey Andreas,

as an addition to Ron's answers:
(2) Nowadays the park offcials want you to bring crampons. Sometimes they are useful, but mostly the snow has either been blown away or there is deep snow where you do not need them. On the Polish traverse route they are more useful. Ropes are only needed on the Polish glacier and more technical routes.
(3) Yes, the normal route is ugly. The traverse route is almost as easy but much nicer.

See also these Aconcagua tripreports and the pictures from 2 expeditions..

Hey Guys!

What is the temperature on Aconcagua (day and night) during the trek to basecamp and until camp 2 on the mountain?

Hi Mike,
until BC, normally the weather is nice and many people walk in shorts and T-shirt. The wind is mostly warm, but you can alsways encounter some rain ro hail, so be prepared for foul wether (always). At night th temperature drops to a bit above freezing, but if the weather is good, it is great to sleep outside (no tent).
Above BC the temperature drops quickly, the wind chills it down enormously and at night it can freeze a lot (most of the time the water sources of camp 1 and even BC will totally freeze and only thaw in the afternoon.
