Hi all,

I have been thinking about alternatives to the 7 summits.
I have seen a few suggestions before but none for the main reason I am looking for: Cost!

While I like the idea of the 7 summits, the cost is prohibitive; espcially, Everest & Vinson.

Does anybody have an alternative where:
* One can hit most continents, different cultures, weather etc..
* There is a good balance of skill and strength/endurance required
* The climbing is feasible for the amateur mountaineer
* The duration is 2--3weeks (typical vacation that won't make me lose my job)
* Any other bonuses: history, challenge, surrounding areas etc...
* And all for a reasonable price: my range is 2-3K US$ per guided trip?

Hi Sinbad,

what you are asking is an alternative to Everest and Vinson only I think...
Any trip to the Antarctic will cost more than all the other summits combined, so I am afraid that you will need loads of cash for any mountain on the southern continent...

Regarding Everest: there are plenty of other mountains that are much cheaper, like Ama Dablam.

At least it's easier and cheaper on some continents.

I do like the idea of the volcanic 7.
Antarctica is still a problem, but I am not giving up yet.
There's gotta be a cheaper way to get there.
I am just starting to research this. If you have any links that may help, I would appreciate it.
