Title: Blizzard conditions on Kosciusko
Post by: Roger on Jun 18 2005, 14:33
News hot of the press re weather conditions on Kosciusko
5 experienced Japanese climbers and there 2 guides were trapped on Crackenback in sever blizzard conditions overnight.
They became disorientated and built a large snow wall and cuddled and sang songs all night.
Just shows that even little old Kosciusko can be a dangerous place!
Main thing is they survived

Thanks Roger. Yes, in the end all mountains can be dangerous, even 'hills'  ;)

Robert Mads Anderson (http://7summits.com/info/stats2/index2.php?_=d&familyname=Anderson) had a real epic there as well, think it was his most dangerous of the 7 summits!

It's only worth doing in winter - much more fun and usually the metal track is buried so you need to actually think about things!  O0

That's the louziest excuse for not summiting Kozzie and making a picture of Ireland's Carauntoohil in winter instead I ever read  ;D

Hee hee hee! Smart ass... Kind of annoying really though - three failed continents! And only the hard ones left! It seems that blizzards follow me around - one erupted the day I aborted on Aconcagua too!  :o  [I was already on the way down for other reasons]

But for the record - here are some other Kozzie pics (I walked up the Merrit's trail from Thredbo but came down the ski lift like the lazy bugger I was!) On the upside though I found a cool pair of Oakley's lying in the snow! No footprints around - maybe the guy who lost them got buried in a snowdrift or something, I don't know!

I dunno MoT those pictures still look very similar to Carrauntoohil in winter  ;) actually the chairlift pictures look very like a winters day on Ben Nevis....

Heh heh! I thought you'd be on MY side Daisy!  ;D

Did I ever tell ye about Mount Whitney? Oooops... now there's a can of worms!

Actually it'd be nicer if I could say it wasn't Kozzie because that would mean I've only floundered on two continents. Now you mention it, it does look a little like Carrauntoohil (I've never been on it in clear weather so it all looks pretty white).

It's interesting you should mention Ben Nevis - I lost the shades near the hut below the north face!
