Title: Bradford Washburn, 1910 -2007
Post by: 7summits on Jan 12 2007, 00:57
As received from Greg Glade today:
"Dear Friends,

It is with great sadness that I pass along the word of Brad Washburn’s passing.  Barbara called me this morning with the news that Brad died last night, January 10th, 2007.  He was truly a remarkable man who, for 96 years, displayed a boundless spirit and enthusiasm for the mountains and those who loved them as he did.  I feel blessed to have known him.

I’m sure much more will be forthcoming celebrating his life.  Per Barbara, there will be no services.  Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Best wishes, Greg Glade"

I wish his family strength for the loss of this great man. Bradford was a great climber and photographer, pioneering the West Buttress route on Denali, which now usually is referred to as the Washburn route.

I met Brad after my climb in 2000 in his 2nd house, the museum of science in Boston, an amazingly vital man, over 90 years young.
