Well I sell both brands in my store and let me tell you witchever you dicide you are gonna buy a good jacket no problem. Both brands are on top of my A list. Offcourse brands like The north Face,Patagonia and Berghaus are also good (North face is my sponsor :) and the summit series is A-oke) but the 2 brands you mention are just a bit more hich-tech, no comprimise jackets as those other A brands are more made for the bigger public.
Arc teryx won several prices in severel years for their Jackets....the quality, the innnovation, the features.
My personal choiche would be Arc teryx although its more expensive here in europe then Haglofs.

So you would say that arc'teryx is of higher quality then Haglofs?

Yes I do.....they are the ones who "invented"laminated zippers, zipper garage's, smaller tape for seams still as strong as normal ones but lighter and all kind of other innovations were they recieved prices for.
All others are copycats....they won the european outdoor award in 2000 and 2002 (i could have the years wrong) for a gore tex jacket.....
Defenitly on my wish list when i would buy a new hardshell.

What did you pay for it? Might serve as a good benchmark as ther seem to be more and more Arcteryx fakes on the markets.

Might seem a good deal at first to pay 70% less for an Arcteryx or The North Face shell, but you might have wished to have spent more when you are in that snowstorm up that mountain and your fake Arcteryx's seams slowly start to rip....
 :P

Your life might be worth more (unless it's fake too  ;))

Wow, guess you know you've been away a while when you're responding to a reply from APRIL. :-)

I paid 400 for it from moosejaw.

Personally I prefer the Haglöfs clothing. I often get questions if I'm sponsored by them since all my clothing and even backpack is from Haglöfs. The only thing not from them are the shoes (Koflach).

I don't have any problems buying Arc'Teryx either even though I am located in Sweden. There is a shop selling the entire collection of Arc'Teryx in my town but after long considerations and also $$$-issues I decided to go for Haglöfs...

The clothing from Arc'Teryx is really great! I've got a Windstopper fleece and a Paclite jacket Sirrus SL that performs really well. And they are from Canada!!! (like me) ;D

But don't forget their packs. I've got a summit pack called the Khamski with attachments for skis that stood on top of Kili and Elbrus and a large expedition pack Bora 90 that serves me well.

They don't sell Haglof in Canada.

Good climbing!!

Hey Mike and everyone else,

I've been thinking about getting myself a new jacket and "abandon" Haglöfs... ;) The jacket I've been thinking about is Arc'Teryx Theta AR or the Arc'Teryx Alpha SV or The North Face Ama Dablam or The North Face Mountain Guide Jacket.

My first and primary choice would be the Theta AR. I like the fit and everything but I am also unsure if that's good enough? Does it handle high altitude peaks good and everything else?

Can any of you guys give me some advice on what to get and why?

Hi Buddha!

The only advice I can tell you is to buy a tough abrasion resistant jacket, unlike the Ama Dablam which is a good jacket but not strong enough. I use the North Face Kichatna jacket (I don't think they sell it anymore) which is even tougher than the Mountain Guide, and when I go into the forest on ski touring or on top of a mountain with 2 inches of ice on the jacket, I feel secure.

I know by reputation that the Arc'Teryx jackets are really good, but I never tried one except for a Windstopper fleece that I loved and a Paclite jacket that I will never bring on high altitude peak.

The kichatna jckt is indeed no longer avialable.

My personal choiche Patagonia Ice Nine jct  and then the ARc teryx jct. (and off course norht face..my sponsoR) ;D

I've decided today for the Arc'Teryx Theta AR jacket. I love the color combination, going to have the gumby colors. The jacket is slim and really nice looking and fits well..

I saw a Patagonia jacket in the window of the shop so I have to try that out tomorrow, after all I haven't bought the jacket yet... Tomorrow tomorrow... :D

I`m sure that Arc'Teryx produce very good jackets but what happen when/if somthing happens with the laminated zippers. The jaket have no "flap" to cover the zipper,  so if the zipper get broken you will find yourself in a lot of trouble if the weather is really bad, would you not ???

Perhaps, but at least you'll look good while freezing to death! :)

That is true! Hopefully I will have my backpack with me so that I can grab a down jacket! I certainly won't carry a spare GTX...
