Good question... I was actually wondering about using Mt Ameghino for acclimatisation but a lot of people seem to advise just to push along on Aconcagua just to maximise chances of summiting it - they worry about potentially burning out by climbing other hard peaks. Acclimatisation hikes to the ibanez col etc are common practice.

Of course Ameghino and Ibanez would be a lot easier having already summited Aconcagua - (more acclimatisation)

What do you people think?

I think you wont burn out from acclimatisation trips.....if so then you should take a good look at yourself and you Pysical condition.
Acclimitisation is good/necesarry.....off course...dont make a trip to 6500 if you want to summet a 7000 meter mountian :?)

That's what I tought Ron - surely summitting a nearby (but slightly lower) peak should be good acclimatization. If only i could convince my aconcagua partners of this for our climb in December/January. I've already convinced them to stay away from the eggs  ;D (long story)
