What is the best book to read when you are new to the world of mountaineering?

Freedom of the hills?

yes! i have read it (volume 5 i think) and it is good! also, if you want to get to know about a climbers life, then read reinhold messners book (sorry i forgot the name of this particular one), but it is about his hole life.
anyway, the answer is yes, freedom of the hills.
