Title: 22nd May: Marko officially lost
Post by: Chris Valentine on May 22 2005, 20:08
Just had confirmation from Lorenzo that Marko [and three others from another team*] are missing presumed dead. "We are mourning" he says. Nothing more I can add, really.

[*NOTE: everestnews.com are now reporting that Marko is now the only one missing]

Lorenzo does not have the names of the other three missing people as yet.

Meanwhile, a very large, mostly Chinese team has summited today. They reported a temperature of -30 deg.C on the summit.

Apparently Sherpas to the Chinese team, who are at Camp 2 and above right now, have found a body at 8800m that may well be Marko:

I am so very sorry.  My condolences to the families and loved ones.  My heart is filled with sadness.

Lorenzo recorded a new voice message late last night. Viktor has finally returned to ABC Obviously the whole team is pretty distraught. One of the other three originally reported missing, a French Canadian, has turned up, so much relief there. Weather has changed again and the wind has dropped, which has enabled many of the big Chinese team to summit.
