Additional InfoJo and Rob Gambi have summited all 7 in a record time for a couple (1 year, 38 days), they were the first couple who summited all 7 while being married.

(Gary Pfisterer and Ginette Harrison finished their 7 summits in 1995, but some the summits were not climbed together, some were climbed before they were married; the Ershlers have also climbed all 7 together, but were also not married during all of the climbs.)

Update on previous statistics: Rob and Jo Gambi successfully summited Carstensz Pyramid in Irian Jaya (Indonesia) on 19th August 2005 at 1.30 pm with Mountain Trip – American guiding company - the guides were Bill Allen and Ryan Campbell, plus a local Indonesian guide Franky Kowaas.

Biographies as received from Jo & Rob

Rob and Jo Gambi have just become the first married couple to complete the 7 summits (Carstensz version). In addition to this Jo has also entered the Guinness World Records as the female to complete the 7 summits (Carstensz version) in the fastest time (799 days). Rob and Jo completed the 7 summits (Kosciuszko version) in 1 year and 38 days but they had to wait for over one year for Carstensz to re-open so they could climb it.

Rob and Jo successfully summited every mountain on their first attempt and when Jo summited Everest in May 2004 she was the second British woman (and only one alive) to have completed Everest by the North/North East ridge.

In the last few years they have also climbed numerous other mountains including ‘Cho Oyo’ (8,201 metres) and ‘Ama Dablam’ (6,812 metres) in addition to skiing the last degree to both the North and South poles. This made them the first couple, Jo the first female and Rob the first Australian to both climb the 7 summits and ski to the North and South poles.

They embarked on their adventures after Rob had recovered from his second and more serious episode of cancer in 2001. Once Rob was strong again they decided to leave their jobs and spend more time together. Rob and Jo used their Everest climb to raise money for ‘Cancer Research UK’, in addition to a school project in Tibet.

Prior to taking time off work, Rob worked as a Fund Manager and Jo worked as a Physiotherapist plus a Pilates Instructor in London, UK. Rob and Jo first met in 1995 on a sailing course on the south coast of the UK and were married in September 1996. Aside from their love of sailing, their holidays were always spent in the outdoors whether climbing, mountaineering, skiing or windsurfing. Jo has been commissioned by a British publisher to write a book about their adventures and it will be published in 2006.
