Update: Randy climbed Carstensz in July 2005 and has finished the Adventure grandslam!

This is the Information Randy Peeters sent us:

July 14th, 2005
I wish to report my completion of the 7-Summits with both the Kosciuszko and Carstenz versions. Previously I had reported the 7-summits with only Kosciuszko. Item number 10 below details the Carstenz climb on 8 July 2005 at 8:51 AM which was totally legal and done with all the proper permits. I had also previously reported the completion of the Adventure Grand Slam on 19 April, 2005 at 1345 UTC. This completes a 17-year project which I began in May of 1988 on my first un-successful attempt of Denali. Since that date I have achieved this goal with the following expeditions:

1. Denali, Expedition Leader: Randy Peeters, Route: West Buttress, Summited on 17 May, 1989. Other team member: Harlan Reese, USA.

2. Aconcagua, Expedition Leader: Randy Peeters, Route: Normal, 4 January 1992. Other team member: Harlan Reese, USA

3. Elbrus, Route: Normal, Summited on 17 August 2001. Summited with Marty Schmidt (Expedition Leader), NZ.

4. Everest, Route: South Col, Summited on 16 May 2002. Summited with Ang Tsering Sherpa, Nepal and was a member of the Expedition Facilitated by Henry Todd.

5. Kilimanjaro, Expedition Leader: Randy Peeters, Route: Machame, Summited on 5 December 2003. Summited with Al Albright, USA, et. al.

6. Mt. Vinson, Route: Normal, Summited on 13 January 2004. Summited with Forest McCarthy and was a member of Alpine Ascents International Expedition.

7. South Pole, on 21 January 2004 by airplane with Haruhisa Watanabe, Japan.

8. Kosciuszko, Expedition Leader: Randy Peeters, Route: Normal route from Thredbo, Summited on 26 October 2004. Summited with Doris Peeters, USA.

9. North Pole, Expedition Leader: Victor Boyarsky, Route: From Borneo Ice Base, Arrived at 1345 UTC 19 April 2005.

10. Carstenz Pyramid, Summited at 8:51 AM, July 8th, 2005, 8-minutes ahead of James P. Clarke who summited at 8:59 AM.

Please note that I have been the expedition leader on 4 of the climbs and climbed Everest and Carstenz via a facilitated trip and not a guided trip. Guided trips accounted for only 3 of the expeditions and in the case of Vinson it was the only practical way to climb that peak. With the exception of Denali in 1988, all objectives were met on the first attempt. I freely admit that I arrived at the South Pole via a pick-up load for Matty's 2004 Expedition (there was no last degree program available that year) and only did the last degree to the North Pole. This aside, I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment in finishing this daunting objective in the best manner possible for me personally. Based on available statistics, I believe this makes me the oldest person, 2nd American and 8th person in the world to complete the Adventure Grand Slam.

Quick Summary: 7-Summits with Kosciuszko and Carstenz Pyramid Versions, South Pole by plane, North Pole from Borneo Ice Base. Age at time of completion is included.

Adventure Grand Slam: Date: 4/19/05, Age: 59-years, 131-days, oldest person, 2nd American and 8th person in the world.
Seven Summits with both Kosciuszko and Carstenz Pyramid: 7/8/05, Age: 59-years, 211-days, 46th person, oldest person ever and oldest American.
Seven Summits: Date: 7/8/05, Age: 59-years, 211-days, 83rd person – Carstenz Pyramid Version, 2nd oldest ever and oldest American.
Seven Summits: Date: 10/27/04, Age: 58-years, 321-days, 94th person - Kosciuszko Version, 5th oldest ever and 2nd oldest American.

This completes an undisputed version of the 7-Summits including all options. Please note that I have also climbed Mt Blanc (7/17/99, 2-days, 15,772’) which is sometimes disputed with Elbrus as the highest peak in Europe.

If I am incorrect in any of my statistics please let me know. Thank you very much for compiling these records and I really appreciate you efforts in this regard.
