'Why a site about the 7 summits?

Ever since Dick Bass climbed them, the 7 summits have attracted adventurers all over the world, including me (see 2b). There was no site dedicated to the 7 summits and all the information that could be found on the subject was either outdated or incorrect.

So I decided to start www.7summits.com (first under www.adventure.demon.nl, then under www.the7summits.com, now there are a few dozen URL in many languages pointing to this site).

I use it to 

- give free information to the (armchair) mountaineer community all over the world

- keep the world informed about my own quest, post tripreports, pictures etc.

- more commercial activity is coming soon

' Who is behind 7 summits.com?

Although many others have and will contribute in one way or the other, 7summits.com is owned and operated by me, Harry Kikstra from Amsterdam, the Netherlands. I have climbed 5 of the 7 myself (the fff or 'five financial feasible' ones) and am working on plans to finalize Vinson and Everest soon.

Besides this site, 7summits.com also produces tv and commercial formats and travel programs, more news soon!

I was born in 1970, have been working at Internet pioneers DigiCash and eCash technologies as project manager and Director of business development, Europe. In between I was an ecommerce consultant for Origin Netherlands bv (Now Atos-Origin).

Besides mountaineering I also cycle (see also www.bike2matter.com), mostly on my racing bike; I also swim, run and just started doing a bit of skating and surfing... I also make some music every now and then and have hand built a 5 string fretless bass guitar.

Award are mostly used to get a higher link popularity, but we are flattered anyway ;-)

Sometimes we get strange boosts from particular countries or sites, and then it seems like 7summits.com  was chosen as site of the day or added to a popular link section or something similar. Unfortunately is is very hard to find out what happened afterwards, so if you choose this site as site of the day/week/year, please let me know and you will be mentioned here!

Why a newsletter, what happens when I submit my email address?

When you sign up for the 7summits.com mailing list your name or email address will be used for this purpose only and will not be sold or abused in any other way. You will receive the irregular newsletter, containing one or more of the following subjects:

* Trip updates and/or reports

* Special offers for trips to the 7 summits

* Recommended mountaineering book 

* Gear deals

* any other interesting stuff

If you would like to see other subjects, just let me know via email or the feedback form on the site.

If you want to be removed from the list, just reply to it and mention your wish for removal; you can also send an email or simply use the button below:

If you have changed addresses, please let me know and I will remove your old address as well as add your new one.

I charge no fees for the information I share; I don't use a free hosting service with annoying pop-up screens for the 7summits.com site. But a few parts of the site (the voting booth, guestbook) are situated on other servers and they do get paid via ad sales. 

I also have no banners in my site except the few I put there myself; these are either links to my sponsors that support me, or affiliate links which might bring in some little $ if millions of people follow them...

The paypal link can be used for a donation if you enjoy the site.
