About the 7summits.com trips: terms & conditions, useful info and more : Do I need technical insurance for a Kilimanjaro trip? |
|
|
Q: |
I have a question regarding insurance for the trip; On the booking form it states 'Members must be protected by insurance that covers cancellation, accident, health, emergency evacuation, mountaineering and loss of or damage to baggage and personal effects.'
I would like to confirm what 'mountaineering' activities are required as part of a Mt Meru and Kilimanjaro trek as I am aware that many travel insurance companies do not provide insurance for 'mountaineering or rock climbing using ropes or guides.'
Can you advise whether there will be any use of ropes on either of Mt Meru or Kilimanjaro? I am aware that the treks are guided so I will have to confirm exactly what the definition of a 'guide' is for some travel policies before I organise my insurance. |
A: |
There are no technical activities on Meru or Kili; no ropes, carmpons, harnesses etc. It's basically a hike at altitude, but some insurance companies have some kind of altitude limit in their small print which means you can bungeejump at sealevel, but not hike safely at 3000m, so you might want to check that with your insurance.
Note that insurances change their policies often.
Normally no problems are encountered at altitude or even anywhere on the mountain as we take good care of you, so even with an altitude-limited coverage you can still take out insurance that covers the first and last days (travelling to and from the mountain).
A guide is a trained someone who is knowledgeable about the route, mountain, flora & fauna as well as first aid. See it like a city tourguide, but then at altitude :-)
Our guides are all certified and trained (and speak English). Check the link in the left menu for a discount on trip/travel insurance. |
