My atlas shows a mountain in Papua higher than Carstensz Pyramid. Is Carstensz really the highest?
My atlas shows a 5,030 m mountain in Papua that is higher than Carstensz Pyramid. Is it?
No. The 5,030 m figure on many atlases belongs to Ngga Pulu, a snow summit next to Carstensz Pyramid, and it was measured during the first expeditions of the 1930s when Ngga Pulu carried a thick ice cap.
