The World Meteorological Organization estimates the ice on Carstensz Pyramid (Puncak Jaya), Indonesia's only tropical glacier, had shrunk to about 0.1 square kilometres by July 2025, down roughly 34% from August 2024. The report projects the remaining ice will vanish by late 2026 or early 2027, a loss the Amungme and Moni communities regard as sacred.
