American athlete Tyler Andrews ran the 54.4-kilometre route from Everest Base Camp to Lukla in 7 hours 43 minutes, beating the previous self-supported record of 9 hours 47 minutes 59 seconds set by David Byrne and Majell Backhausen in 2023. Andrews also holds the Lukla-to-EBC and round-trip records, and set an oxygen-assisted Everest speed record earlier in 2026.
