With Manaslu's commercial season winding down, a small Russian team led by Andrei Vasiliev is applying to climb Everest (8,848m) off the normal South Col route, without supplemental oxygen, scouting a line for next spring. A separate Russian team led by Sergey Romanenkov is attempting new routes on Langchung Khang, Langpo Peak and Jannu (7,710m) in the Kangchenjunga region.
