How high is Everest, and why are there different numbers?
Everest is 8,848.86 m, or 29,031.7 feet, above sea level, the figure agreed by Nepal and China in December 2020 after a joint survey, and usually rounded to 8,849 m. The older numbers come from earlier surveys and from whether the snow on top was counted.
