What it is for
A foam mat under your inflatable one, for extra insulation and as a back-up that cannot puncture. It also makes a seat in camp.

High camps: under the inflatable mat, for insulation and as the backup if it punctures, sent ahead to a higher camp
What to look for
- R-value (ASTM F3340)
- How well a mat stops the ground taking your heat: higher is warmer. Only figures measured to ASTM F3340 (since 2020) can be compared between brands.
