Headlamp (with spare batteries) on Everest
Also called: Flashlight and head lamp, Head lamp, Headlamp, Spare batteries, Spare batteries (for headlamp)
What it is for
Lights the way on summit day, which on most of these mountains starts in the dark, and in camp at night. Cold empties batteries quickly, so carry spares.
What Everest asks for
Standard
300 lumens or more, batteries that work in the cold, and a second lamp or spare batteries on summit day
What to look for
- Brightness
- Light output in lumens. Brighter also empties the batteries faster.
- Burn time
- How many hours the lamp runs. Check at which setting the maker measured it, and expect less in the cold.
Kinds
- Batteries
Other mountains
- Standard on: Everest, Aconcagua, Kilimanjaro, Elbrus, Kosciuszko, Carstensz Pyramid
- Optional on: Denali
