Carstensz Pyramid: Overview

Carstensz Pyramid within Oceania. · Imagery: NASA Earth Observatory “Blue Marble” · borders: Natural Earth (public domain)
Topographic map of the Normal Route on Carstensz Pyramid, from Yellow Valley Base Camp south to the foot of the north face, climbing south-west up the face to gain the summit ridge at its western end, then east along the ridge to the summit of Puncak Jaya

Point at the route or drag along the profile to see the height and the distance walked.

The Normal Route from Yellow Valley Base Camp: a short walk to the foot of the north face, about 480 m of climbing up the face on fixed ropes, then the notched summit ridge east to the top. Only 1.2 km end to end, and 613 m of it is vertical. The basemap’s own peak symbol sits about 100 m west of our summit marker: the climb carries on past that spot and finishes where the marker is, 50 to 68 m higher by barometer.
