Mendoza restricts high-risk sports on Aconcagua from 20 December to 1 February

13 Oct 20263 min read

Aconcagua Provincial Park will not authorize high-risk sports from 20 December to 1 February: the South Face, glacier skiing, paragliding and BASE jumping. Normal Route climbers are unaffected. The rest of the year those activities need a dated authorization, filed at least 30 working days ahead.

Aconcagua: heavy snow and a new 20-year concession system meet at the start of the season

8 Oct 20265 min read

Operators working in Aconcagua Provincial Park say the mountain is unusually snowed in ahead of the 2026-27 season, and that the opening date for tourist entry has not yet been fixed. The same season begins under a new concession regime awarded by the Government of Mendoza in September 2026, replacing the annual permits used in previous years. Sitio Andino reported both on 27 September.

Aconcagua 2026-2027: Mendoza opens advance permit sales until 30 September

28 Sept 20264 min read

Mendoza's protected areas authority has opened advance sales of Aconcagua climbing and long-trekking permits for the 2026-2027 summer season, at promotional wholesale rates available until 30 September 2026. The permits are sold only through the service companies that won the park's concession tender, and evacuation insurance is compulsory. Ascent by the Horcones valley is listed at USD 950 for foreign visitors and USD 1,290 by the Vacas valley.

Nepal drafts an experience requirement for Everest permits

21 Sept 20265 min read

Nepal is preparing legislation that would require prior high-altitude climbing experience before an Everest permit is issued, according to Tempo.co English, citing ANTARA. Lawmakers are still discussing how many climbs above 7,000 and 8,000 metres would count. The same report sets out the current royalty for foreign climbers on the standard route at US$15,000 in spring, with lower figures in the other seasons.

Nepal Mountaineering Association puts the average Everest expedition at $60,000

18 Sept 20265 min read

Rajendra Lama, secretary general of the Nepal Mountaineering Association, told RIA Novosti that a professionally organized Everest expedition for a foreign climber costs about $60,000 on average in 2026, within a range of $45,000 to $70,000 and above. The spring 2026 permit royalty is given as $15,000 per climber. Russian outlets carried the figures on 17 September 2026, with one difference between them over whether the permit sits inside the average or on top of it.
