Robert Alt is the president and chief executive of The Buckeye Institute, a public-policy research organisation in Columbus, Ohio. He climbed the 7 summits over eleven years, from Kilimanjaro in 2015 to Elbrus on 1 July 2026, with Carstensz Pyramid as his Oceania peak.

He climbed in memory of his father, Bob Alt, an endurance athlete who had wanted to climb Everest and died in 2010, and carried some of his father's ashes to each summit. His first attempt on Elbrus, in 2017, ended with high-altitude pulmonary edema and an evacuation; he reached the summit of Everest on 15 May 2025 and returned to Elbrus to finish the list.
