Very dark sunglasses (category 4) with side protection, against the glare of sun on snow and ice. Without them you risk snow blindness within hours.

Good wrap-around sunglasses, category 3 or 4; a spare pair is optional. If you need glasses to see: prescription lenses, or spare glasses and contacts
What to look for
- Lens category (0–4)
- How much light the lenses stop. Category 3 is ordinary sunglasses; category 4 is for glaciers and high altitude, and is too dark to drive in.
